Ion Seventeen is an earnest young field agent from the Sixam Amalgamation sent to study the inhabitants of "Human World Alpha" for business reasons. Ion is enthusiastic, outgoing, eager to do the job well, and utterly naive about human nature.
Reuben Maldusk is a world weary and grumpy detective, with a lot of secrets and a reclusive habit, but he needs help with the high cost of San Myshuno rent, so he lets Ion in as a roommate. Obviously, they're going to get along great.
Also, there are neighbors. And conspiracy theorists. And some kind of vampire mob boss. And a psychic-alien-bodyguard-cat. And probably some romantic tension plot arcs for at least somebody. Because I don't know when to stop.
This story was started in October of 2022. The first season ended in April 2024. Season One chapter index here. Season Two is being worked on, and I don't have a firm date yet for when I will begin posting it, but when I do, you'll hear about it here. Feel free to use this thread to leave comments about the story. Or you can also comment on the chapters in the blog itself.
Genres: Urban fantasy, space opera sci-fi, comedy, drama, romance, and...?
Warnings: Mostly pretty "innocent", but some characters swear a lot, some characters have sex (off screen, or tasteful nudity shown), some characters have trauma in their pasts, some characters experience/take part in/are witness to violent events, some characters drink (and it's probably not juice), some characters are are hopelessly naive, and at least one character is aggressively extroverted. Human and alien reproductive biological systems are enthusiastically discussed at some point. Content warnings in spoiler boxes at start of chapters where I think they might be needed.

Hi everyone! Just an update to let you know how things are going. Due to various work, health, and personal reasons, I got almost nothing done on Seventeen & Maldusk from about mid-April to mid-July. But since then I have been really diving into it, and I'm excited about what I've done so far. Of course, because of my scattered way of writing, almost all the chapters I've worked on are fragmented and unfinished. But I am rapidly making progress in closing up the gaps. I don't yet have a date for when I will be ready to start back up, but stay tuned! In the meantime, please enjoy my adorable little pals here. I call them Ion and Reuben.  I'll leave it up to you to figure out which one is which. |

I hope you get better soon and more time to rest! But I'm glad the story is still in progress!
Also I LOVE these! They are very SaM-esque especially the Ion-pus : P I think I have the blue one actually, my mum's friend bought me one after see me trying to win one in a claw machine. XD If the blue one has the deep blue sad octopus on the other side I have it : P
Hmm...Vampire octopus...Trying not to think about it too hard...Would it drink blood or ink? Would it have fangs on its suckers? Now I've made myself feel ill.

EvilBnuuy Thanks! Most of the health issues happened in May/June. I'm feeling a lot better now. But up until mid-July I was still super-busy at work, and tended to be too exhausted to do much else. Anyway, progress is being made on SAM at last. And I'm excited about what I have done so far, and what I have planned It's just in too fragmented a state to share yet. I love my little Ion and Reuben pals. They both sit on the dresser by my bed. Here's what the flip side looks for both of them:
