This is so good!
I love the "call each other by concepts" idea. Very much wondering why Chromium picked the name he did.
The world you are slowly revealing here is so intriguing, eerie, and beautiful.

GlacierSnowThank you for your lovely comment <3 I'm glad the vibes of the world are coming across the way I'd hoped! (By the way, I have finished reading Seventeen & Maldusk a few days ago, and I mean to write a comment, but I have so many thoughts that it's taking me a while to get them all out. So comment coming soon!)

Chapter 4. As you can see, I was very emotionally stable at 22. Honest.

tavvles Oh, new chapter! Beautiful again, as usual. That ending was unexpected. I can honestly say I've never seen a little dog leap four feet into the air, then run vertically like Wile E. Coyote. Perhaps I should get out more.

Aaaa! My heart!
I really feel for Rain here. She seems to lack much confidence in her self at all. In that state (and I won't pretend it's only young people who feel this way) comments from complete strangers, or even acquaintances whose opinions shouldn't matter, can really cut deep. The way she's thinking about it all day, sure seems very familiar to me.
The puppy looks so happy running around with the string of lights though! 🤣

arieltriffic Haha to be fair I can't say I've had any dreams featuring dogs flying through the air trailing string lights either, but I like to think someone out there has GlacierSnow Yeah, in that regard, Rain is a lot like me. Especially back in my early twenties. Just no self esteem, always overdramatic... a great combination overall. I didn't have string light puppy either But we're only on chapter 4, so she still has room for growth, hopefully! Thank you for commenting, as always <3

Ah, wonderful chapter! At first, I thought the different characters were different aspects of Rain, but personified and separated. Perhaps each character serves a different function in Rain's life? But the "between" is actually the collective subconscious a la Carl Jung - is this correct? I love how Chromium wants to fix the Rot. And I think I would have the same reaction if someone introduced themselves to me like Solidarity did. I can't wait for the next installment.

arieltriffic I have never heard of Carl Jung until now- his work looks interesting, I should read up on his theories! In this case it's less that everyone shares common ideas in unconsciousness, and more that they all enter a shared dream space when asleep, I guess? As for whether the characters are personifications of Rain's aspects, we shall see.... Chromium is indeed the one driving the plot along for now, and yeah Solidarity... is a lot xD He takes a while to get used to, for sure. Thank you so much for reading and commenting <3

Finally I managed to catch up! I'm so slow in reading recently... Back to the serious comment, the dream world is so pretty! And it also fits a lot the atmosphere of dreams, I wouldn't know where to start to make such a setting!
The plot instead for sure leaves a lot of suspense, there is still so much to disclose about that dreamy world, what the protagonists are actually supposed to do, and so on. Bah, I'm curious to see what's next!

HermioneSims Thank you for reading! No worries if you fall behind, I'm just happy you're giving it a shot <3 I'm glad you're enjoying the setting, and yes the plot has only just started so there's still a lot left unexplained But hopefully things will be revealed shortly!

Chapter 6. I'm crazy busy this week and next, and I have to get rid of most of my worldly possessions by Monday, so I did rush this one a fair bit. Sorry about that.

Ah I'm behind : ( Oof, that feeling... Omg that dog is so cute ;-; I feel so bad for her in how she feels about herself, including in the apology when she calls herself stupid and blames herself for others' attitudes...very relatable lol. I really like all of the lore so far, and I like how the clock turned out to be so important as well.
I know Mum is just trying to be supportive, but the way she talks about it being a 'real' job just feels quite pressuring, as if if she doesn't get in she'll somehow be lesser. I don't get the sense it's intentional from Mum, but still hurts to hear. I wonder if she didn't dream because the clock isn't intact? Maybe when she puts it back together she'll be back in the dream world.

EvilBnuuy No worries! I'm just happy you're willing to take time to read I'm so happy people like the dog! It's a lil scene stealer. Yup Rain is a lot like me with her insecurities and a touch of self loathing, so this is all projecting on my part. Her mom probably thinks she's doing the best for her but doesn't quite understand what makes her tick, so it comes off as oppressing. As for the lore, it's a bit rough as I didn't want to get caught up in plugging plot holes, but I'd like to make the vibes cohesive at least. It keeps people guessing, which is nice xD Thank you so much for commenting!

tavvles My goodness, I didn't realize there was an update to the story! I hope you are doing well - it sounds like you're going through a stressful time. Before I go off on a tangent, I just want to say that I enjoy your story immensely. You're able to put into pictures something that I feel every day. I just love the way the dream world is. And it looks like there are many friends there who will help Rain put things back together. What she's going through reminds me of the theory of structural dissociation. In some people, when they experience trauma, a part of themselves gets stuck in the past. That part can be called an Emotional Part, or EP. The part that carries on day-to-day life is called the Apparently Normal Part, or ANP.
Take, for example, someone with PTSD. Most of the time, the person seems pretty normal, but then a stimulus reminds that person of the trauma. The Emotional Part acts as if the trauma is happening again.
And all this gets more complex with more traumas. There are three tiers of dissociative disorders according to this theory - primary, secondary, and tertiary. PTSD would be primary, Complex PTSD would be secondary, etc.
Rain has to put the clock back together again - I wonder what this symbolizes? I can't wait to read more.
