I want to feel like this is good news... but I'm not entirely sure. Big new patches always make me nervous.

I don’t think I feel anything in particular about this. A lot of the definite things they’ve announced we knew about anyway (the film, MySims, Sims Labs) and they don’t interest me. As for the hints of what might be coming … we’ll have to see. What I take from it is that they’ll be a lot more kits in future! I think I was actually most interested in the Sims Freeplay announcement, as I’m currently in one of my ‘dipping-in’ phases (I’ve dipped in and out of that game for years, though have never spent a single penny on it).

Am I the only one that found this disappointing. The film does not interest me. Rene does not sound that great and MySims I've never played. I so wish the would update the Sims 2 so it could run better on the new windows.I noticed the patch is tomorrow now instead of today

I have also opted out of automatic updating so as not to spoil my game due to my inattention.

Are the creators of creator kits going to get paid properly? They are creating all the assets for the kit right? I feel like it's obvious that they should get paid, like, a normal contract work fee, whatever industry standard would be. (I work on contracts often irl, but not in this field) But the look of all those "perks" in the creator program makes it seem like... they might get only the perks??? Or those pennies that MIGHT get tossed their way when someone specifically enters their creator code at checkout... wait, not even pennies every time someone buys the kit? that they made? Lots of cc creators make stuff for free all the time I guess... but they are making it directly for fans, not creating income for a big gaming company. I dunno, I guess people are free to take or not take a job like this, but it doesn't sound like a job I would want. Sims Labs sounds great, on the other hand. They definitely need a wider net for playtesting this game, and "free with perks" makes sense to me for that level of playtesting. I'm already signed up actually

I just want to be allowed to play my game without too much disruptive interference. When I read all the winged words about how much the company appreciates everything the Sims community shares and contributes, it sounds distorted to my ears when you think about the new EA platform. It doesn't escape my attention that if you want to keep up to date with the latest initiatives, you have to follow Discord, X, Instagram, etc. Not a word about the EA forum. I know it's a big company, but this sounds like the story of the head that doesn't know what the tail is doing.

mightysprite Creators who directly contribute to the development of Kits and game expansions should probably be remunerated for creating content that is sold at a profit. I mean I remember that at some point EA would file a lawsuit against CC creators who made money from developing on templates owned by EA? It ended with the compromise that they are only allowed to accept payment for a short period. There is clearly a need for more game testers who play the game regularly and preferably in a varied way. It can save us all a lot of frustration. That way, I only have respect for what you do. Oh, by the way, that reminds me of this interview with CC Creator SixamCC. SixamCC and the Storybook Nursery Kit

I was going to say that I would expect a creator to expect to be paid for their work. Then I remembered that I once created official content for a tabletop game and it never occurred to me that I might get paid for doing so... until the project was canceled and the publishers apologetically cut me a smaller check than they had intended.
I'm not sure what the point of that anecdote is other than some people will certainly have the horse sense to expect money for labor, and some will be like me and do it for love. I expect there are fewer people in the second category and EA will eventually discover that if they want quality content, they have to pay for it.

This Variety article is interesting. It does imply that the kit creators will be compensated for their work — hopefully in a fair way.

Lots of good info there freddyfox1234I found this quote reassuring I can’t get into specifics, but we worked closely with our initial creator partners to compensate them for their work and will continue to evolve that process alongside the program.”

Some more info about the Sims Hub on the Sims Community site. Not sure what I make of this.
